I am my own Dolly Parton – a deeply personal documentary directed by Jessica Nettelbladt. The film introduces us to music producer Gudrun Hauksdottir and singers Nina Persson, Cecilia Nordlund, Lotta Wenglén and Helena Josefsson – five colourful women ready to take on whatever challenges life throws at them, inspired by Dolly Parton’s strength to go her own way and defy the pressure to conform. The film takes us on a thought-provoking and inspirational journey about taking yourself seriously, listening to your heart and having the courage to make your dreams come true.
Five women, all involved with music, brought together through their love for Dolly Parton. All of them have dreams for the future, but painful baggage from the past. During a series of tribute concerts, a warm friendship develops between them that leads to an intimate exploration of their life stories.
