Thirty years ago, a family made the decision to build a garden with an organic restaurant on an island between Sweden and Norway. But with growing tourism, they have started to question themselves and they are about to take a new decision. A film about how we as individuals will find ourselves in a world of overconsumption and with climate changes that threaten our very existence.
But do they have the right to reconsider? Must they run a place like this just because people like it? Can they close to tourists and start over even though the business is at its peak? Is it permissible to do something so drastic? Even if people are disappointed, is it really their responsibility to run a restaurant for mass tourism and to satisfy the municipality with a fine business that they can show off to visitors?
What is our responsibility as individuals, and how do we cut ties to the dependence on the market that has been tied up in an alliance that has made everyone dependent on each other? Is it permissible to opt out and find our own paths? And perhaps become less dependent on the global economy.
