In March 2023 the rescue ship MV Louise Michel was detained after the rescue of 178 people in four different rescue operations in front of the island of Lampedusa, Italy. The Pink Ship painted by Banksy, was named after the French anarchist Louise Michel a rebel, poet and a teacher that lived a life dedicated to women's rights in the 1800s. Naming the boat serves as a historical metaphor, and through Michel, the sea rescue activities embodies their ongoing feminist struggle.
